I'd say on a weekly basis at work I see about 20-25 people come in who were scammed by someone remotely. Most will either pay via gift cards which usually are iTunes gift cards, moneygram/cash or rarely credit card (Banks usually put a stop to fraudulent charges and sometimes even go as far as having customers change their CC's) Some of the names had info next to them stating said people paid and others showing they were actively trying to get the people to pay. Almost all of them were either in the UK, US, Canada or Australia.
Found an excel spreadsheet with a list of about 30 people, their addresses and what not. Looks like he was situated in India at a scammer center.
